How one gap in the market turned into Colombia's go-to for healthy food that doesn't slow you down.
In 2010, Dan Durda — an athlete and lifelong lover of healthy food — noticed a gap in the Latin American market. Moving to South America, he struggled to find anything genuinely healthy to eat on the go, and the lack of options caught up with him: weight gain, low energy, and a general lack of clarity, no matter how hard he trained.
He eventually realized the gym was only ever solving 20% of the problem. The other 80% came down to nutrition — and once he started digging into the long-term effects of a poor diet, he found he wasn't the only one struggling. Everyone he spoke with was dealing with the same thing, or knew someone who was.
Dan set out to meet as many nutritionists and industry experts as he could, chasing a simple idea: make healthy living easy, fun, and delicious. It sounded straightforward until he ran into the real complexity — endless personal requirements, goals, cravings, special diets, and food allergies.
His answer was to put customers in the driver's seat, building a system where every customer designs their own meal, so they always get exactly what they want — quickly.
In 2011, Gokéla — "go bananas" in Hindi — opened its doors with one mission: help the world be healthy, one bite at a time.
Wraps, salads, burritos, bowls, pizza, extracted juices, and smoothies — every one of them built around you.
